I am an artisan and farmer from a remote area in Ostrobothnia, where I handcraft log buildings and yurt saunas. I often walk through fields and forests, seeking inspiration for my art and future adventures. My primary goal is to create authentic, meaningful things in the world and to bring happiness and joy to people through saunas. Books, good company, humanistic thinking, nature, animals, and a fresh beer are all important to me.

If I’m not in the sauna, you’ll often find me in the forest or the garden. I combine old sauna traditions, ancient practices for health and well-being, mythology, and the whispered magic of trees. The sauna is a living being to me, a sacred space where it is possible to reach something within my own inner universe and, at the same time, connect with the many layers of existence beyond ourselves. I hope that people can find the voice of their own heart in the sauna and strengthen their connection with nature.

I am a passionate seeker and sharer of experiences. I am fascinated by the meanings people create and the universal experiences of being human. To me, the sauna represents stillness, the unique experience it offers, and equality: on the sauna benches, we are all equal, sharing the touch and magic of the steam. I want to bring this magic into some of the most important moments of as many lives as possible.

Suomenselkä Design is an artisan and development company founded by Joonas Jokela, a farmer and folk artist from Lestijärvi. Suomenselkä products make abundant use of nature’s own forms, while constantly seeking new solutions and innovations. Authenticity, rustic charm, and the combination of different techniques are the key approaches that our folk artist applies in his work, often in the remote and quiet corners of the countryside.

Our respect for quality and Finnish craftsmanship is also reflected in our choice of stove: the wood-burning IKI stove that heats the yurt sauna is handcrafted in Finland. With high-quality materials and refined engineering, the IKI stove guarantees soft, moist, and powerful steam.
